Once in a while a beautiful place inspires great humanity…

This project is truly something special. Tshemba is a bespoke volunteer center creating humble and beautiful refuge for medical professionals to come home to. My brief was to curate a home, not a lodge in architect Kevin Mitchell’s avant guard circular creation.

Each of the nine bungalows is en-suite and has a private lounge and deck. Kingsize and twin options are available and have all been carefully thought through and personalized by colour. Slipcovers for each bed were and stitched by hand in specially dyed cloth for me (beadstudio.co.za) so that every room is unique.  Each bungalow is painted a wild (by bush standards) colour on the outside and each boasts a framed scarf from the awesome lalela.org initiative. The main buildings are a homely place to rest and rejuvenate. The cabinetry is all unique, sofas and dining table is custom made to fit the curves of inspirational architecture. Really the design here was all about the individual’s experience of the space. A calm palette of organic textures breathes fresh respite from the Hoedspruit heat. Beautiful pieces from Tonic, La Grange, Anatomy and Metaphor showcase some of SA’s design talent.

Thank you N,G & L for a magnificent experience, and for being such fun and wonderful clients! May the doctors come forth and heal!
